Collaborative Research: RAPID: Assessing the impact of firefighting foam spill on PFAS pollution in Brunswick Maine

US · ME · Brunswick NSF grant awarded #nsf-2555673

Summary

This project will assess the impact of a firefighting foam spill on PFAS pollution at the Brunswick Executive Airport in Brunswick, Maine, by measuring PFAS concentrations in soil and water samples over one year.

What they want

Investigators will collect, archive, and analyze PFAS in soil and water samples at various locations around the spill site over the course of one year. The goal is to understand the distribution of PFAS within the soil horizon and the impacted watershed as a function of time and proximity to the spill site, revealing mechanistic insights on PFAS fate and transport.
