Miniaturized Sagnac Gyroscope in Lithium Tantalate on Insulator Integrated Photonics: Engineering Exceptional Points for Enhanced Sensitivity and Stability

US NSF grant open #nsf-2533605

Summary

Nontechnical Description Gyroscopes are essential tools used in many technologies, such as navigation systems, drones, and camera stabilization. Thanks to advances in MicroElectroMechanical Systems (MEMS), mechanical gyroscopes have become much smaller and more efficient. However, for the highest levels of accuracy and stability, optical gyroscopes—like Ring Laser Gyroscopes (RLGs) and Fiber Optic Gyroscopes (FOGs)—are still the top choice. These devices use a physical principle called the Sagnac effect to detect rotation with incredible precision. Making these optical gyroscopes smaller coul
